Biotechnica - 2003, Hannover, Germany
Dear Sir/Madam, Our partner the Lumex Ltd. invites you to visit its stand F20, hall 003 at the Biotechnica - 2003 This exhibition will be held in October 7 through 9, 2003, in Hannover, Germany. During the exhibition the company will display the following instruments: Flourat-02-3M Analyzers CAPEL-105 Capillary Electrophoresis Systems RA-915+ Mercury Analyzer LaSca Laser Particle Analyzer During the exhibition the Lumex Ltd will offer two presentations concerning its Capillary Electrophoresis Systems and Laser Particle Analyzer. Below you will find the theses of both presentations. Capillary electrophoresis for the analysis of substances of biological importance Vadim M. Okun, Lumex Ltd., St. Petersburg, Russia "In the last 2 decades capillary electrophoresis (CE) has emerged as a powerful tool for the analysis of different substances in various fields of fundamental and industrial sciences. The absence of solid support in a capillary where a separation takes place makes this especially favourable for bioanalytical studies, since it offers to a considerable extent the in-vivo situation where the molecules are free in solutions. There are kinds of molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, and even viruses that can be analysed by CE. Important parameters underlying the affinity properties can be also determined. We present here a full automated CE system Capel-105, which is a most upgraded version of well-known instruments from Capel series. Highly effective cooling of a capillary enables operation at a high voltage and short capillaries thus improving the efficiency of separation. Integrated microprocessor helps create a very flexible program of analysis with variable time and parameters events. Different models of CE, including capillary isoelectric and affinity CE, can be realised on the system. The examples of most successful separations of biomolecules achieved with Capel CE system are given." LaSca. Light scattering in biotechnological and other applications. Igor E. Jahatspanian, Igor V. Mindukshev, Lumex Ltd., St. Petersburg, Russia "For several years Lumex Ltd. has been developing a new series of particle analyzers LaSca based on laser light scattering. The measurement of particle characteristics in the 0.5-100 μm range is ideally suited to meet the needs of scientific research and various applications in geology, mineralogy, metallurgy, life sciences (haematology, cytology, serology), pharmacology, and biotechnology. The developed technique employs a new mathematical approach to the determination of particle size distributions and kinetics of heterophase processes. In biotechnology, the cell concentration (biomass level) and specific growth rate (μ) are the most important parameters for fermentation control. Therefore, on-line measuring of biomass and μ is necessary for control and automation of the cell cultivation processes. The laser scattering technique can be used in a number of biotechnological applications, such as - On-line monitoring of cell concentration in terms of g/L throughout a biotechnological process; - Continuous calculation of μ - Measuring the cell size distribution and evaluating the population index. This technique can be used for the bacterial and yeast cells cultivation control. We present here an automated particle size analyzer LaSca-biotech, which is a dedicated version the LaSca series instruments specially adapted for biotechnological applications. The principle of the analyzer operation is based on measuring the scattering angle diagram of a laser beam passing through a measuring cell with a sample. Cell suspension from a fermenter is continuously pumped through the measuring cell of the device and then is returned to the fermenter. All liquid ducts and the flow cell can be readily removed from the device and sterilized by stream or chemicals. The analyzer is equipped with a bubble separation system." We cordially invite companies who might be interested in distributing our products to visit our stand!
