Discover revolutionary underwater measurement technology by PyroScience

Since becoming commercially available at the end of last year, the new AquapHOx Underwater Loggers by PyroScience, a new generation of all-in-one flexible testing platforms for deep-sea and shallow waters, have gained significant interest from the ocean research community.

After participating in the Wendy Schmidt Ocean Health XPrize in 2014 and being supported by EU-SME-2 funding, PyroScience committed to developing underwater testing systems universally applicable for different types of research, including ocean acidification, environmental monitoring, coastal marine biology, aquaculture (coming soon!), water column/sediment profiling, and many more.

Among unique product features not previously available in existing oceanography instruments on the market, AquapHOx Optical Systems offer high-resolution/low drift pH sensors as well as ultra-trace and ultra-high-speed oxygen sensors.

AquapHOx loggers have been tested extensively in diverse coastal habitats worldwide, including coastal water (North Sea, Adriatic Sea), a reef flat of the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, and bivalves growing in oligotrophic seas (Eastern Mediterranean, Israel).

AquapHOx provides fast, reliable, and robust measurements of critical parameters, like oxygen, pH, and temperature on moorings in open sea/coastal sites and fixed platforms alike. There are several long-term research projects currently in motion. We look forward to sharing the results with the community in the future.

You can review the most common applications and features for these underwater systems below and please contact us if you would like to discuss your specific application needs.

Applications

  • Ocean Acidification and Climate Change Research
  • Coral Reef Research and Coastal Marine Biology
  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Water Column & Sediment Profiling
  • Oxygen Minimum Zones Monitoring
  • Aquaculture (coming soon!)
  • Many more

Features

  • Reliable pH measurements in harsh conditions with minimal impact of high salinity
  • Ultra-trace O2 measurements (0.05 ug/L detection limit) for oxygen minimum zones/de-oxygenation events
  • Quick response time (30-60 seconds)
  • High accuracy and resolution due to REDFLASH technology
  • Deep-sea (4000 m) and shallow water options (200 m)
  • Real-time data transmission or stand-alone long-term logging
  • Compact, robust, easy-to-use, affordable, and flexible
  • Easy calibration, low maintenance (calibration capsules included)
  • Broad sensor portfolio (choose between O2, pH or Temperature)
  • Contactless read-out of incubations chambers with integrated sensors
  • Profiling over surface structures, in sediments and along gradients at high spatial resolution
  • Long battery life (up to 2 years) and more
